The humility of listening to the material

Each piece blends traditional methods with innovative techniques. I carve sustainably sourced wood into unique sculptures and vessels, honouring craftsmanship and ensuring that every piece reflects a deep reverence for materials and processes.

Process

For me, process is everything. The act of making is not a means to an end but the core of my practice. From the first raw cut to the final polish, each stage of creation leaves its imprint, shaping both the sculpture and the sculptor.

I am rooted in tradition. Hand tools, chisels, gouges and mallets are not merely functional - they are links to the makers who came before me. Each mark left by these tools is a quiet record of intention, a reminder that the hand is always present, always guiding.

At the same time, I embrace the possibilities of modern tools. Grinders and sanders extend what can be achieved, but only insofar as they remain faithful to the touch of the maker. Technology is useful, but it is never the origin - it must always serve the hand, not replace it.

In this way, process becomes a journey. It is a path from concept to completion, yes, but also one of discovery, where wood and maker are shaped together. A sculpture holds the trace of its becoming: the bold energy of the chainsaw, the precision of the chisel, the refinement of the finish. In turn, the maker holds the lessons of the work - the patience, the rhythm, the humility of listening to the material.

The sculpture, then, is not just an object. It is the visible record of a process, and of the quiet transformation that occurs along the way.

It begins with the wood

Nothing lasts, nothing is finished and nothing is perfect
